Transparency International's 2009 CPI
Transparency International just (11/17/2009) released their Corruption Perceptions Index (CPI) for 2009. The CPI tracks the perceived degree of offical corruption in 180 countries, scoring them on a scale from zero (very corrupt) to ten (very clean). A link to the report follows.
The CPI is has become a key risk assessment metric for companies doing business abroad in measuring the extent and risk of corruption in countries where they conduct or contemplate doing business. The DOJ looks for the incorporation of the CPI into the FCPA risk assessments performed by companies when scrutinizing corporate compliance programs and due diligence and it is a factor in their determination of corporate responsibility/liability should a bribery or corruption issue come to their attention.
Where do the countries that you do business with or are contemplating doing business with score? You might be surprised to learn that the vast majority of countries scored below 5 on this years CPI!
